Emotional contagion: Improving survival by preparing for socially sensed threats

چکیده
Rats respond to the emotions of others. A new study reveals how their central amygdala uses such social information selfishly trigger defences that adapt nature danger with all hallmarks true emotional contagion. Fear, a powerful state triggered by detection threat, is key adaptive response aids survival triggering flexible behaviours depend on imminence danger. We share this emotion many other mammals and it has been studied richly in rats1Adolphs R. Mlodinow L. Barrett L.F. What an emotion?.Curr. Modeling Emotional Contagion
In social psychology, emotional contagion describes the widely observed phenomenon of one person’s emotions being influenced by surrounding people’s emotions. While the overall effect is agreed upon, the underlying mechanism of the spread of emotions has seen little quantification and application to computational agents. In this paper, we explore computational models of emotional contagion by i...
متن کاملEmotional contagion model for group evacuation simulation
The key role of emotions in decision-making process of human beings has been highlighted recently. Our research focuses on fear-related emotions and their positive impact on the survival capabilities of human beings in case of crisis situations. In this paper, we proposed a new model of emotional contagion based on some main findings in social psychology. This model was formalized mathematicall...
متن کاملEvidence for Unintentional Emotional Contagion Beyond Dyads
Little is known about the spread of emotions beyond dyads. Yet, it is of importance for explaining the emergence of crowd behaviors. Here, we experimentally addressed whether emotional homogeneity within a crowd might result from a cascade of local emotional transmissions where the perception of another's emotional expression produces, in the observer's face and body, sufficient information to ...

The study reported in this paper is part of a larger project, Chameleon, that through a multi-disciplinary collaboration investigates the scientific foundations of emotional contagion, transforming it into an art experience. The aim is to create an emotional bond with the audience and to trigger reflection on emotions. The Chameleon art installation uses facial expression recognition technology...
متن کاملEmotional contagion with virtual characters
In social psychology, emotional contagion describes the widely observed phenomenon of one person’s emotions mimicking surrounding people’s emotions [8]. While it has been observed in humanhuman interactions, no known studies have examined its existence in agent-human interactions. As virtual characters make their way into high-risk, high-impact applications such as psychotherapy and military tr...
